The mere mention of the word Mazda conjures up images of the now famous MX5 Miata which reached almost iconic status as the sports car for the masses, a car that redefined the standards for handling and appeal for open topped motoring, without having to sacrifice your family silver for it. Mazda founded in 1920 and so named after its founder Jujiro Matsuda and also famed god of wisdom, intelligence and harmony in ancient western civilization Ahura Mazda, has been at the forefront of some delectable and affordable designs in sporty vehicles such as the RX7 Effini, RX8, Astina, CX7 etc. They are also the only company in the world that persisted with the rotary wankel engine and continues to do so even today, in spite of widespread skepticism.

DRIVING   IMPRESSIONS- SSANGYONG  ACTYON

By all accounts, I am an avowed petrol head and have never passed up an opportunity to drive anything on wheels from the truly exotic prancing horse to the mundane Perodua. But by some quirk of fate I have never had the pleasure to acquaint myself with anything from the stable of SsangYong. So when the opportunity presented itself in the form of the Actyon, I grabbed upon it with glee.

RECITAL OF A NEW SONATA

Taking aim at the mega rise and reign of the mighty Japanese car industry has to be one of the most daring efforts by any car manufacturing nation. However long before the Chinese and Indians, it were the Koreans who came up with a convincing attack while the Americans simply talked a lot and did zilch of what actually was required. They still keep talking about “kickin some Jap ass” etc and that’s about it. Today Toyota is about to overhaul GM as the world’s number one and their (Toyota’s) canteen expenses could probably buy them GM and Ford in one go.
